From a Craigslist Desk...to an Answered Prayer — the Story of Joy Carpet Dry CleaningWe’re Jeff and Melissa — partners in business and (sometimes wild) adventure. Our story isn’t your typical “start-up” tale. Back in 2008, we were both laid off of our corporate jobs - Jeff from American Airlines and I from corporate banking. While looking for a used desk online, I stumbled across an ad: "Joy Carpet Dry Cleaning going out of business." What started as a $100 desk, turned into the opportunity of a lifetime.Bill and Darlene Swingler, the founders of our company, welcomed us into their Plano storefront. Within 24 hours, we had purchased the company - and became stewards of something much bigger than ourselves. In that moment, Bill looked over at his precious wife Darlene and exclaimed, "I think this is the young couple we've been praying for!" We had no background in carpet care. But we had faith. And we said yes. In true roll up your sleeve fashion, and since August of 2008, we've proudly carried on the Joy Carpet Dry Cleaning legacy - one that started in 1983 - with new energy, new divisions, and the same heart. We're honored to serve homes across DFW with care, excellence and gratitude. We are parents to our Texas A&M University - grad daughter, in-laws to our Texas State University son-in-law and new grandparents to two precious grandchildren. We also have a fur child, a mini-doodle named Maggie. We've lived in McKinney, TX since 2007 and enjoy living and being based out of this vibrant and growing community.
